Project Description

For 1967’s Festival of Music, the State of Alaska commissioned Anchorage’s Civic Ballet
to create a ballet commemorating 1867’s purchase of Alaska from Russia. Robert W Service’s The Prospector was selected for adaptation. My duties as originator were to develop stage characterizations, visual action, blocking and time sequences. Design for sets, lighting, costumes and program followed.

Music was composed by Dr. Robert Jordahl of Alaska Methodist University. Upon a completed score, Civic Ballet Director Lynda Lorimer Kaiser choreographed the production. Guest dance soloist Patricia Carleton–Instructor of Ballet at Interlochen Arts Academy–and Steve Primis of the Stone Camryn Ballet created lead roles.
